HYPERTENSION, HEART DISEASE, DIABETES, CKD, HIGH CHOLESTEROL AND MANY OTHER DISEASES IS CONSIDERED CRITICAL AND CHRONIC AS OF A RESULT OF OBESITY. Doctors will and do prescribe numerous of meds for those diseases BUT WILL NOT PRESCRIBE THE WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS AND MEDS TO HELP TREAT PATIENTS WITH OBESITY (WHICH IS ALSO A DISEASE, AND THE ROOT OF THE OTHER DISEASES). INSURANCE COMPANIES INCLUDING MEDICARE WILL PAY FOR UNLIMITED PRESCRIPTIONS FOR YEARS TO TREAT ALL OTHER DISEASES, EXCEPT OBESITY. IT MAKES NO SENSE. MEDICARE REFUSES TO PAID FOR THE WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS AT ALL. WHY???

There is a bill right now in the house to get obesity listed as a chronic condition. Contact your insurance company and ask them about the health related services that are offered. Free gym membership, PT, OT, pain management doctor are covered. Start there. Then go to your city where free health support and education is indeed offered each month. All the best !

Videos like this are so helpful. I wish there was more helpful information for how to handle talking to kids about this. I followed the principles of Kids Eat in Color when my kids were little. But as they have gotten older, I regret that even though it seemed like such great info at the time. And often I just feel at a loss. I know specific tips and advice might be beyond the scope of what is done within this organization usually, but I wish I could find better resources in general. My mom always said no sugar until after lunch. We drank water as kids and were very active. But the schools actually supply the kids with free sugary cereals in the morning, after they’ve had breakfast, and chocolate milk throughout the day. And popsicles for events. And treats often. Sugary yogurts. Pizza and burgers all the time. And now my kids don’t even like many of the healthy foods they used to love. It’s so hard to teach good habits in today’s environment.

I have contacted obisity action colletion due to my inability to contact the ada on a few issues i have seen.. sience ihave contacted them and even these videos it focuses on loosing weight.. this may help who i have been using a weight management program to try to counter the effects of the meds tha cause me to gain weight. I am also gettign ready for bareatric surgery.. between drs and others kind of discriminating abotu the weight. the bigger problem is infrount of you and no one does anything to help.. I have a freind he is slow disabled and has a payee. when his wife passed i took him to my house and he was waring cloths to small for him.. sience he has a payee he cannot purchas anything on line all his cloths mush be purchesed in store well he is a 5x stores dont sell 5x an has to be orderd special. he realy dont know his size and he has no way to find his actual size so he wares cloths 2 to 3 sizes to small. when he showerd he left poop on my shower chair i asked if he had a wiping aid he had no idea what one was so he never used it sience he couldnt reach he just stoped trying.. his drs complained about his smell but never once asked if he had problems showering.. so hers the problem why didnt drs ask him if he could wipe or shower why are cloths that fit only in one place very far away and have to be orderd and why arnt medical devices like wipe aids on the shelves of pharmicys and stores to help over weight people keep clean.. my friend was failed at so many levels. When he went home he ended up homeless because due to his wife and his inability to keep the house clean before she passed he was being evicted. and we lost touch.. i tryed to call numbers to get him help and also turn in stores and businesses for discrimination for failing to provide the basics to the store that helps over weight people that cannot order online.. put cloths on the shelves that fit every one and reorder as needed it dont have to be a great selection but some cloths.. put in shower aids and wiping aids to help the most vounrable of the over weight people that allows them to stay clean.. its funny walmart says come on in buy our food but fat people dont dare try to puchcas any cloths. or anything to keep clean medical aids to help keep clean like a wipe aid to keep the rears clean.. SO why is every email focused on us loosing weight rather than addressign the real issues. some of the weight people have is not a effect of eating their are meds that throw our thyroid out of control or just cause weight gain and their are disabilitys that prevent more exorcize than they would like. its not always a food issure.

I don't understand this confusion with the abdomen. My mother was the only obese child in her family. She's pushing 80 and has dealt with stage 3 pretty much all her life. I am baffled by this. Is this a bill, for taxpayers to pay for medical treatment of people who decide to eat too much, eat garbage, and not exercise? I get it, we are all different, but most obese people are that way because they choose not to find the diet that works for them and excercise along with it, and the fact that you want me to pay for that is absolutely infuriating. Try a bill to take gmo’s and artificial crap out of our foods and I’ll support that all day, but I’m not volunteering to pay for someone else’s bad decisions and lack of self control. I this economy, I am struggling to pay for my own food, no thanks to paying for someone else’s excess of food.

Most obese people don’t want to be obese. They don’t want to die, or experience debilitating pain, or emotional abuse-but these all come with the disease of obesity. Please help to support those who are suffering from this horrible disease! Obesity is not fun for anyone, no matter how much people try to make light of it. It can affect physical aspects of life, social aspects, career and work life, self esteem, mortality…just so much! Try ignoring your own hunger cues for a while, and see how many years you can keep it up to get a better perspective on people living with obesity must go through too. And treatment means changed lives but it also means less impact on the healthcare system overall.

Very useful information, thank you! The "...easy way out..." meme is something often attributed to WLS as well and equally ignorant and frustrating! It made me think about my time as a substance addiction treatment counselor, working with patients who had various options to help them recover. Some of those options included using Methadone at low doses to offset physical withdrawal symptoms of harsher, less monitored substances. No one said that "using methadone is the easy way out of withdrawal/addiction recovery...."! This is the same principle with medication for obesity treatment, IMO! I guess it will just take some time for society to realize it and catch up! Thanks again! I especially appreciate the reinforcement here that obesity is a "chronic disease" and needs ongoing treatment! As one managing this lifetime condition, it's helpful to be reminded that it's NOT just a matter of personal choice!

I hope all of your stories touch the lives of our youth who are experiencing overweight/obesity.
